Poets For Dinner

At some point, before you leave, you will be hugged. Tightly. No need fighting it because she makes it a mission to hug everyone. Why? It’s a Hug Life thing. You have to experience it to understand.

Your hostess, Grace.

“When I say love on, y’all say somebody. Love on?” The audience says, “Somebody.” “Let’s try this again. I know y’all can do better than that. When I say love on, y’all say somebody. Love on?” There is a loud “Somebody” that can be heard down the hall and on the floor above the cozy meeting room.

So begins Poets For Dinner. A unique open mic gathering at City Arts 2 building, 1700 Greenmount Ave. What makes this open mic different? Well, besides the bear hug you receive from the hostess, Grace, there is no cover charge. It’s free to enter. There is plenty of food. That’s also free. Poets, musicians, comedians, and speakers share their talents with fellow artist and lovers of performing art. All for free. Well, kind of. Halfway through the night, a brown bowl is passed around for donations.

The other unique feature of Poets For Dinner is, no sign up sheet. You write your name and social media information on a slip of paper, fold it, place it in the glass bowl, and at any moment your name will be plucked to stand in the non mic area, and share whatever is on your mind.

From funny to profound. From sensual to heartbreaking. You will experience it all during one night of Poets For Dinner.
